There are different venues available to families to support their funeral choice. Venues can be for the funeral, for a celebration of life or wake, or for burial only purposes. Choosing a venue, or a combination of different locations, is influenced by location, proximity to key people or locations, size of event, time, season and of course, availability. We also acknowledge the importance of honouring family traditions and making choices that reflects the life of the person who’s died.
Crematoria
UK crematoria offer a single location for families to have a service with a coffin that provides facilities for music and live-streaming. They can usually accommodate large numbers and, depending on location, offer car parking. If a direct or unattended cremation is chosen, there will be no service for family to attend.
Places of Worship or Funeral Home Service Rooms
Depending on their faith, choosing a place of worship for a funeral is the preferred choice for some families as it includes the coffin. It’s also possible to have a service in a funeral home service room which is faith-led or not. Some places of worship and funeral home venues also offer catering services. Both can include the coffin.
Burial sites
Having a service at a graveside in a cemetery, graveyard or natural burial site is also possible, although being outdoors may present some accessibility limitations and be weather dependent.
Celebrations of Life or Memorials
Families can choose to arrange a separate event that may involve catering that is at a different time, maybe even a different day, from the funeral. In some cases, this is the cornerstone of their funeral arrangements.
Our service rooms in Elgin, Inverurie, Broughty Ferry, Dundee, St Andrews, Edinburgh, Dalkeith, Galashiels, Hawick, Jedburgh and Ashington offer live streaming and can be factored into direct cremation options where families honour a loved one’s wish for simplicity, but still get a chance to say goodbye.
We’re here to guide you through local options and support you with practical arrangements.
