Charity Collections policy

Our Policy on Charity Collections

We recognise that a charity collection in memory of someone who has died is a very important tradition that gives comfort to the bereaved family and is a valued income stream to charities.

In an increasingly cashless society, we encourage families to explore online giving opportunities. However, where a cash donation is requested, we balance the need for transparency with accountability when handling cash through the following procedures.

  • In the arranging discussion where a cash collection is first proposed, we recommend an announcement is made in newspaper/social media so mourners can come prepared
  • The responsible person/s for the venue will be advised in advance that a collection will be taken
  • The person instructing the collection must nominate a named person (not a member of our funeral team) who agrees to accept responsibility for the cash donation at the funeral even before we can agree to provide a collection box
  • We will provide a unique cardboard collection box to be used on the day of the funeral
  • At the conclusion of the funeral event, the collection box will be handed by us to the nominated responsible person before leaving the venue
  • We will neither take physical responsibility for cash donations, nor their safe keeping, nor counting or passing on to the nominated charity
